Dutch Ink is a group of Durban creatives who met and started working together at college while studying at Vega – The Brand Communications School. Martin Pace, JP Jordaan, Stathi Kougianos and Nick Ferreira started working together on freelance assignments during varsity, have since been building up the Dutch Ink portfolio and have become well known for their reverse graffiti.
This particular piece was created as part of Play Energy Drink’s re-branding campaign. Dutch Ink talks us through the piece, “The typography for the Play Energy Drink mural is our first major commercial piece and we are very proud of how it has turned out. We were commissioned by Hello World to illustrate the following sentence with any interpretation we wanted: “The well-beaten path is not well. It’s Beaten”.
Our inspiration draws from constantly pushing each other creatively and from our natural surroundings. Our work tends to reflect organic themes and we like to create artworks that people can appreciate on their way to work. We would like to think that we treat Durban walls as a public art gallery that anybody can enjoy at any given time.”
