Nedbank’s latest TV campaign by Net#work BBDO advertises their new entry level banking service Nedbank Ke Yona by creating three separate ads, each in a different South African language – English, isiZulu and SeSotho. The campaign features Zolani Mahola from Freshlyground in the English version of the television commercial, and two “ordinary” South Africans, Mpho Pitini (who plays a nurse) and Michael Mabizela (who plays a shop assistant) in the SeSotho and isiZulu adverts respectively. The accompanying radio campaign features six of the nation’s official languages.
Net#work BBDO executive creative director Rob McLennan says,” As far as we are aware, this is the first time that a brand has commissioned separately scripted TV commercials in South Africa’s vernacular languages.” The video above is an in-depth behind-the-scenes look into making the three ads with comments from the actors, translators, creative team and director.
