Green Renaissance wins WESSA award

Green Renaissance, a division of African Renaissance Productions, is a South African production company that aims to help communicate a transparent agenda for environmental change, and they’ve recently been recognized for their efforts.

At the Annual Regional WESSA (Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa) awards, held last week, Green Renaissance was awarded for their contribution to environmental awareness specifically for the short film series that they produced in collaboration with The Treasure the Karoo Action Group (TKAG) entitled “Karoo Fracking Chronicles”. The campaign was created to showcase the value of the Karoo and hear first-hand accounts of it’s importance from people who live there.

The series focuses on a variety of Karoo residents, including Fox Lederboer, the unofficial water bailiff of the Gamkapoort Dam in the video above. All these individuals emphasize the absolute necessity of untampered water resources in this fragile ecosystem, which would be irrevocably affected by hydraulic fracturing processes.

To date over 20 000 people have watched these videos online, and the campaign has had significant reach within the local print and online media.

Congratulations Green Renaissance!
