STR CRD 2011 – At the Festival

Screen-shot

It seems September has become Culture Month. It’s the Toffie Food Fest this weekend, Creative Week Cape Town from the 9th to the 18th, the Loerie Awards weekend from the 16th to the 18th and then STR CRD in Joburg on the 24th. Not bad! Here’s what you’ll be enjoying at this year’s Street Cred Festival:

STR CRD is an annual street culture showcase that celebrates urban culture and youth interests. International guests for 2011’s event will include Woody (Sneaker Freaker founder and editor), SBTG aka Royalefam (who will be conducting an exclusive 12 person customizing workshop), Levi Maestro (video blogger and tastemaker) and international store PATTA from Amsterdam.

Booked to perform are international artists Theophilus London, Va$htie and Masta Lee as well as many local music acts including BLK JKS, Khuli Chana and Desmond & the Tutus.

Activities will include street ball, skate boarding, graffiti installations and BMX while STR.CRD Sessions brings keynote speakers from the street industry to discuss street smarts vs book smarts and how they turned their love for street culture into commercial success stories.
HGH.STR Fashion will be show casing the latest and hottest sneaker and apparel brands in street fashion and designers from the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and SA).

As STR CRD is taking place on Heritage Day, there will be hertigae activations including customized city caps, celebrating the culture and heritage of all 9 of South Africa’s provinces, which will be on display, along with the Nash Money x STR.CRD customized sneakers depicting the 11 official cultures. You can do your bit for charity by donating your second-hand shoes to the KICK.BIN initiative and thereby gain free access to the event.

Str.Crd 2011 is proudly presented by The Free Agent, an Arts Alive and City of Johannesburg event, in conjunction with media partners: Mahala, Sony Max, DSTV Mobile and Motribe.

Tickets are R150 from Webtickets. For more information and to check the programme of events, visit www.strcrd.com.
