These are a collection of self-portraits and conceptual photographs by Sven Kristian, a first year photography student at City Varsity in Cape Town. This is Sven’s story:

Born and raised in Namibia. I spent the last 8 years in Scotland and England working in hotels and trying to make music at the same time, a combination of the worst sort! After realising that things were only holding steadfast on a horizontal plane and not progressing forwards and upwards, I decided to pack it in and move to SA to study photography, a true passion for me now.

I want to hold strong to my artistic side, but I also want to embrace the commercial world and make a career out of it. I’ve recently discovered a huge interest in conceptual photography and I have always loved portraits, so these will stay close to my heart for years to come.

I still write and record music at home and hope to break into the scene here at some point in the near future. I am also extremely keen to collaborate with other photographers and artists, this is something I am yet to explore. If you ever see my beard and I trotting about Cape Town, come say hi.
