03 Feb Featured: Nanna (Anja) Venter
With a portfolio spanning graphic design, illustration, comic art, sketching, broadcast design and digital, it seems Nanna’s talents know no bounds.
Born Anja Venter, this young slashie is currently a freelance creative director/designer/illustrator while completing her Masters. This excerpt from her ‘About’ can fill you in a little better:
“I hail from the “sprawling metropolis” that is Bellville. Having completed my Bachelor’s and Honours in Visual Communications at the University of Stellenbosch, and a two year stint working in London and Johannesburg, I’ve dedicated 2011 and 2012 contemplating how the creatures/colours/noises/bloops and bleeps in my brain can change the world in our digital age.”
Nanna’s very recently launched website – www.nannaventer.co.za – displays the work she is most proud of. The latest being the final instalment of Van Coke Kartel’s comic series Wie’s Bang? and the most enlightening being the front end design and conceptualisation of a Microsoft Nokia/UCT app which is aimed at educating midwives in Sierra Leone.
In between you’ll find various creative ventures, notably character and animation work for Masters & Savant and two issues of the magazine project ”Suum”, #1 providing a ‘peak into the lives of South Africa’s current teenage demographic’ and #2 described as the deconstruction of the fashion magazine.
