The very first Anvil Awards for SA design, illustration and photography takes place this year. This is the panel who’ll be deciding the fate of the entries:
In the spirit of fairness, and to get a healthy cross-section of the industry, we’ve chosen individuals from companies both large and small. This means you’ll recognise some of our judges’ names, and others you won’t know from a bar of soap…yet.
AAA School of Advertising / Head of Marketing and Advertising
As the Head Honcho of Marketing and Advertising at the AAA School of Advertising in Cape Town, Anthea is passionate about creating opportunities and ensuring her students are industry ready by graduation. She spends much of her time cultivating strong relationships with industry players and associations such as AMASA, IMM, MFSA and PRISA. Anthea also remains active in the industry itself as well as develops and facilitates custom-made courses for organisations such as Old Mutual, BP, Sanlam and various advertising agencies.
Anthea is very excited to be involved in the Annies, and play her part in recognising the amazing creative talent in our country. We consider her one of the key talent incubators in Cape Town, and are only too happy to have her on board.
Am I Collective / Creative Director
The raw, earthy and explorative style Christo encourages as Creative Director of Am I Collective, has met with worldwide recognition in projects for global brands like Coke, ESPN, Vodafone and Apple. When Christo isn’t finding inspiration in the people around him, blank canvases and creative problem solving, he gets his artistic juices flowing with a bit of painting or relaxes with his wife and daughter in the country setting of their home.
We’re only too happy to annex what little spare time Christo has to add a creative brain of his calibre to our Annies panel.
Infestation / Creative Director
Christo has been pushing boundaries in the Cape Town creative industry since 1995. Founder of Infestation, a design agency specialising in conceptualising communication strategies, Christo’s reputation for creating effective online presences and sound brand strategies is unparalleled. Consulting on brand development for many local and national institutions, Christo also serves on the advisory board for one of the leading South African Universities of Technology.
Christo is highly regarded for his role in Cape Town’s bid for the Design Capital of the Year Award, 2014 as well as for being one of the founding members of the Cape Town Design Network.
We have to admit we’re huge fans of Christo’s contributions to our industry and we’re incredibly proud to have his wealth of experience on our Annies panel of judges.
Media Machine / Web Designer and Developer
Dylan is a web development specialist with a passion for interactive social media campaigns built on open source platforms. With a background in fine arts and print and some serious dev skills, Dylan’s work combines tech savvy and design flair in a rare and beautiful symbiosis. This combination has produced some first-rate examples of slick, responsive and scalable systems for the web and mobile devices.
We particularly love Dylan’s enthusiasm for usability trends and philosophies and look forward to hearing his views on the more technical side of our entries.
Malossol / Creative Director
Kerry is the creative force behind boutique design studio, Malossol. Graduating from Stellenbosch University, she worked her way up through the ranks of the industry in companies large and small. Keen to push boundaries and work to her own strengths, she founded Malossol in 2007, specialising in print and web design, with an emphasis on brand identity.
We love that Kerry is passionate about mentoring young designers; helping them refine their talents without stifling their style or individuality. She sees the Annies as the perfect way to get involved in this process on a greater scale and we can’t agree more.
Matt Stow Photography / Photographer
Matt is the artistic genius at the helm of Matt Stow Photography: a successful Cape Town photographic studio, covering nearly all aspects of photography. Matt’s career began in the S.A. Navy, working on photographic and press assignments for a Naval publication. Setting his sights on a broader career in the field, Matt went on to acquire a National Diploma in Photography, specialising in advertising and digital photography. He then worked extensively in the field before opening his own studio.
Matt is excited to be the photographic representative on our panel and with his diverse experience and versatile, artistic eye, we’re glad to add his voice to our team.
Tracey Hadfield / Freelancer
Tracey is an Interior Designer by qualification and a Jack of All Trades by nature. She keeps herself sharp by dabbling in a variety of disciplines from interiors and architecture to copywriting, editing and proofreading and even some user interface design.
Being a creative all rounder, Tracey has a unique perspective on the bigger picture when it comes to design. She believes strongly in balancing aesthetics with a solid foundation of relevance and targeting, and is excited to bring her perspectives to the Annies 2012.
