The multi-talented Chris Auret has been drawing and painting since childhood. He recently made the move back to these things that make him happy after a stint in advertising.
In his own words:
After doing pretty well in high school I was lead to believe if I wanted to make money with a creative brain; I had to go into advertising. And so I studied Art Direction and Graphic design at Vega in Cape Town and have been working in the industry for the passed 2 years. I know most creatives believe they have to climb some sort of hierarchical ladder but I don’t think the ladder suits me.
Hating your job is a waste of time no matter how much money you make. So I quit and I’m trying the risky route of becoming some sort of artist – at least for now.
My art and style varies from medium to medium. I truly believe a strong, simple idea can outweigh a precise execution. Hence my art can change from paintings, to photos, to photos of paintings or just scrawls on an image or another material because I like to come up with good concepts.
