The aim of our Young South Africa series is to put a spotlight on creative youth development projects, work that documents local youth culture, and young South African creatives who are ahead of the game. Lea Colombo is a young and driven fashion photographer from Cape Town who is already doing some big things internationally in only her first year out of high school.
About her work, Lea says, “My work represents a vast collection of ideas, feelings and scenarios. I try to photograph people the way I perceive them.”
Lea has been living and shooting in Paris since moving there in March this year. Her first job was working on a Chanel advertorial for ELLE Canada shot by Tess Feuilhade at one of the Chanel apartments in the Place Vendôme.
Since then, Lea has worked on a shoot for Russian Cosmopolitan, shooting two pages herself for the magazine, has shot renowned German fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth in Cannes for Out of Order magazine and has started www.insidemysuitcase.com with friend Lucillia Chenel.
Most recently Lea has been in Toronto, Canada photographing all the male Fresh Faces at PUSH Management, some of which are featured here.
Now back in Paris; her dream city, Lea says, “My next projects involve a lot of collaborative work with either inspiring artists or some great fashion magazines. I’m also in the midst of setting up my own little studio, which I’m very excited about.”
