26 Sep INTERPRET DURBAN 2012
INTERPRET DURBAN is back for a 3rd year running. The multi-faceted creative contest has been running throughout September and will culminate this Saturday with an awards party and exhibition to show off Durban’s creative talent.
Artists have been called to enter artwork, inspired by the city of Durban and its people, into the various categories of the creative competition -T-Shirt Design, Photography, Video and Mixed Medium Art.
Selected submissions will be exhibited at the awards ceremony where the INTERPRET DURBAN Muso Mix Comp will also be taking place. Three of Durban’s freshest bands have been invited to write and perform a song with a specifically chosen guest artist, in an effort to promote a diverse collaborative and skills sharing programme amongst Durban musicians. Prizes for the winning Muso Mix Comp group include a grand prize of an expenses paid trip to the Red Bull studio in Cape Town, a music video by iKind Studio and a photo shoot.
The winning T-shirt designs will be printed on O’Neill shirts and sold – with portions of the proceeds going to UMTHOMBO, a charity organisation whose work with street children in the city has caught international acclaim. Prizes for the creative competitions include Wacom tablets, Sony Experia smartphones, lighting rigs, sound gear, camera equipment, gallery exhibition hosting, vouchers from Durban’s hippest cafe’s and industries, cash prizes and Kindle packs.
INTERPRET DURBAN 2012 is organised by Street Scene and Intertwine and is part of the eThekwini Municipality’s CELEBRATE DURBAN campaign. The unique venues, artists, live music, décor and every other aspect of the night carefully bring together and show off the best the city has to offer.
