Love Milo: Wooden Plates

December will be here in less than 24 hours and with it we’re relaunching our annual festive season series, Wishlist.

We started Wishlist last year to promote buying local Christmas presents from the very talented South African designers and crafters that we’re lucky to have. This year is no different, and once again we’re asking creatives and bloggers to share the local wares on on their gift wishlist this season.

Kicking us off is Michael Chandler, the marvelous maker behind Chandler House, a Cape Town based ceramics, furniture, linen, lighting and decorative arts label. These are his picks.

Take it away, Michael:

1. Love Milo – Wooden Plates

I really love these plates – perfect for a simple summer meal of cheese, bread and wine. Simplicity, beauty and functionality – a rare combination!

Liam Mooney - Shona Lamp

2. Liam Mooney – Shona Lamp, Carved Sand-Stone

I remember when Mooney showed me his plans for the first one and I’ve been in love with them ever since. I love the idea of such a solid piece of rock, shaped, modeled and emitting light. It’s alchemical.

Madwa pencil holder

3. Madwa pencil holder

I love this contemporary woven container from Madwa. It’s classic African chic. I’d love to put my drawing pens in this!

Mungo Kikoi

4. Mungo Kikoi

These are great – to use for the beach, or as a towel – or table cloth…I just love the colours too.

Sarah Ord

5. Sarah Ord – Aqua dinner plates

I really love these plates! They remind me of Linnware – something which I don’t think I’ll ever afford to eat off. These are perfect for everyday use.

6. Pichulik – A neautral tone bracelet

I don’t know if they exist, but I’m sure if I ask Kat nicely – perhaps she’ll make me one like Solange’s – but in khakis and nautical colours.

Keep an eye on the Wishlist series for more ideas throughout December.
