Zackie Achmat

These posters by Grey, Johannesburg for the Nelson Mandela Foundation make up a youth awareness campaign with a call to action to help take the Mandela legacy forward.

The body copy reads:

1. Zackie Achmat didn’t take anti-retroviral drugs until they were freely available to all South African AIDS patients. His actions put immense pressure on the South African government and in 2003 cabinet rolled out the world’s largest anti-retroviral treatment programme. South Africa now leads the fight against HIV and AIDS. You can make a difference too. Help us take the Mandela legacy forward.

2. Steve Biko died after enduring severe beatings and a 14 and a half hour drive from Port Elizabeth to Pretoria, naked and manacled. If one person had decided to act differently and his injuries had been taken care of sooner, he might have lived. There is no such thing as an innocent bystander. You can make a difference too. Help us take the Mandela legacy forward.
