21 Feb adidas AREA3 | From Before They Were Great

adidas and their Maboneng Precinct-based creative event space, AREA3, are hosting an exhibition and free block party titled From Before They Were Great.

The multimedia exhibition will celebrate Joburg’s diverse and active music scene by featuring the posters, photos, videos and promoter relics from Joburg’s 5 greatest party nights – Thesis Social Jams, Pop Bottles, Griet events, Warm Up Parties and Party People.

As a retrospective, the exhibition will showcase the evolution of these parties, from before they were popular leading to their success now. Hence the title.

The exhibition opens today and will run until 4 April 2013. It officially launches with a free block party outside AREA3 in Kruger Street next Thursday the 28th of February.

The block party will feature performances by the respective resident DJs that have made Johannesburg nights famous, and will include:

1D (Thesis Social Jams), DJ Dimples (Pop Bottles), Moe Joe (Griet), Phat Jack and 2lani the Warrior (Warm Up Parties), and DJ Kenzhero (Party People).

The exhibition will feature the creatives who have also played a part in the success of these parties through their gig poster art or dedicated documentation. The artists are:
