19 Mar Out of Office | The Hub
The Hub occupies the second floor of a historic building at number 2-4 De Beer Street, Braamfontein. It opened its doors to the public in January 2011, and has been fostering a community of independent entrepreneurs since then. The Hub is part of an international network of organisations that all share the same vision and mission to facilitate connections that foster social entrepreneurship.
The Hub Johannesburg is a large, open plan space and offers its members desk space, Internet access, ‘chill areas’, meeting rooms, printing facilities and large group engagement spaces.
Membership to The Hub is offered on a tiered platform, as well as on a month-to-month basis. The different membership options start from as little as R140 per month, and go up to R2875 per month.
Current members work across a range of different fields including IT, programming, greening initiatives, graphic design, and education amongst others. Meghan, manager and host at The Hub, says that an advantage of membership is the potential to create multi-disciplinary teams with other members to work on projects with wider scope.
The Hub also hosts regular events that aim to stimulate thinking around innovation and entrepreneurship.
Although The Hub has great shared workspace, its core objective is really about creating communities whose members can draw off a rich international network of entrepreneurs to find clients, collaborators and partners.
The Hub offers freelance creatives the potential to engage with people outside of their industry, and to perhaps get involved in new kinds of work.
