05 Apr Margot Molyneux | Online Store & Poncho Project
Cape Town based womenswear label Margot Molyneux, named after the designer, celebrated the launch of their online store yesterday evening. Concurrently with the store launch, Margot introduced her Autumn collection.
The brand was established in 2009 with a limited line and has since developed into producing original, small-run collections focussed on local production. The Margot Molyneux label is identified by the use of mostly soft, textured cottons and simple, classically styled items.

Another new venture for the brand is the Poncho Project, a non-profit initiative to get fleece ponchos to Cape Town’s homeless this winter.
How it works:
The Poncho Project is a non profit venture which began in 2013 after realising that with some skill and material we could attempt to make a contribution by donating warm fleece ponchos to some of the homeless people in our city, hoping to help keep them warm this winter.
In conjunction with Haven Night Shelter in Greenpoint, we intend on donating as many ponchos as possible to the deserved. The Haven provides shelter to approximately 210 people every night and while this is a large number, we hope to achieve our goal to make sure that each person has a poncho before winter commences.
Each poncho costs R60 and is made from fleece fabric. It is a loose fitting box shape poncho with a hood, designed to fit many different sizes, men and women. The ponchos are made in the Margot Molyneux studios and the donation covers the fabric and labour only.
If you would like to take part in this project, all you need to do is ‘purchase’ a poncho and we will take care of the rest. Your contribution will be put to use and a poncho will be made and donated. We intend on handing over batches of the ponchos to the Haven Shelter, and hope to take pictures of the new poncho owners enjoying your contributions.
