Thumbnail | An Exhibition of Mobile Photography

20130410_THUMBNAIL EXHIBITION_FLYERS-08

Following the success of last year’s Hashtag iPhonography exhibition, which opened to large audiences and critical acclaim; Johannesburg-based Mobile photographer Roy Potterill is back with a new exhibition. Thumbnail opened in Johannesburg on the 11th of April and will open in Cape Town this Thursday the 18th and in Durban on the 2nd of May.

About the exhibition:

Picking up where Hashtag left off, Thumbnail sees Potterill venturing beyond Johannesburg’s city limits to let his lense explore the country at large. As an evolving exhibition, Thumbnail will start at 100 prints, and then grow, with new images being added as Roy explores the cities in which he exhibits.

A wizard in the realms of light and shadow, Roy has an incredible talent for capturing everyday moments and imbuing them with a sense of reverence and beauty. His urban portraiture challenges perceptions around the spaces in which we live, often showcasing those which would ordinarily be considered as industrial or mundane. Whether it’s the elegant symmetry of a deserted street or a taxi rank bursting with sunlight at dawn, Roy’s work continues to demonstrate that the new worlds of Instagram and Mobile photography are more than passing fads: they are here to stay.
