23 Apr The Winter Sculpture Fair
Over the weekend of the 4th and 5th May 2013, the acclaimed NIROX Foundation and Sculpture Park in The Cradle of Humankind will be transformed into a contemporary wonderland for the new Winter Sculpture Fair presented by MasterCard.
Artlogic, the creators of the Joburg Art Fair and FoodWineDesign Fair have created this new luxury event that offers Joburgers a perfect day trip out of the city to picnic in a spectacular setting and enjoy good food, wine and art with friends and family.
Franschhoek’s top chefs and wine producers will be there to provide visitors top-end exclusive meals, charcuterie, and wine and bubbly by the glass. There will also be a high-end retail space, situated in a cozy ‘library’ environment, where visitors can browse top whiskeys, wines and designer goods to stock up with quality produce and treats for winter.
The Winter Sculpture Fair also marks a significant first on the South African arts calendar with its specific focus on sculpture. The NIROX grounds will become an expansive outdoor gallery setting in which visitors can meander through the ‘After the Rainbow Nation: 2013’ exhibition, a show of iconic works by the country’s leading sculptors. The exhibition opened in The Hague in 2012 as a showcase of South African sculpture, and has now been returned home for local viewers to enjoy. The organizers have also initiated the annual commissioning of a piece for the Winter Sculpture Fair, the first of which will kick-start with the 2013 event.
