WWF Rhino Raid for iOS and Android

 

WWF Rhino Raid is Flint Sky Interactive’s first mobile game and the best thing we’ve seen all week. The aim of the project is to create awareness of the ever-growing rhino poaching crisis in SA while also raising funds for WWF’s rhino initiatives.

 

This concept of “playing for good” is part of Flint Sky’s philosophy of creating engaging projects that further environmental and sustainability causes.

 

How the game works:

 

Players take the role of Rad the Rhino who keeps up a running charge against poachers and their arsenal of weapons. With the help of his trusted ally, Horn Bill, Rad has to dodge the flying hand grenades and automatic rifle fire; jump over exploding barrels…then thump the poachers as he chases after their getaway trucks and get one charge closer to Mr Big, the kingpin behind the international rhino poaching syndicates.

 

Rad’s adventure across the African savannah is punctuated by WWF’s key insights into facts about rhinos, the truth behind the rhino poaching scourge, WWF’s rhino conservation projects in South Africa, the supply chain and trade in rhino horn while also importantly debunking myths about rhino horn use.

 

In a brilliant move, Flint Sky collaborated with creative minds at the top of their game: illustrator Kris ‘Kronk’ Hewitt and musician Markus Wormstorm to bring the game to life. The game’s code was written by Tasty Poison Games for both Android and Apple’s iOS platforms.

 

In the short time it has been available, the app has been downloaded over 50 000 times with most of the downloads coming from Asia, a key market that drives rhino horn demand.

By way of purchasing the app for round the same price as a burger, collectively we can pay a person to monitor a rhino family for a month.. a year, rather than let him be tempted to turn into a poacher for a skraal R1,000.
