Launched in late-January this year, Gaschette magazine is a new(ish), online fashion magazine filled with fresh, exclusive content each issue – “probably the kind of stuff you’re not likely to see on newsstands.” Every month a new theme is introduced and submissions are accepted.
The theme for the fourth and latest issue is ‘Legacy’. Here’s a snippet of what Gaschette had to say about the choice of topic:
This month marks our biggest issue to date – this, of course, is no accident. I mean, we called it “Legacy” for Pete’s sake. It’s the month where we consider our national heritage, our cultural identity – our African-ness, if you will.
So, here’s what we briefed: look at your cities, your hometowns, the people you grew up with – or the people that scare you a little in a sexy way because you’re both so different – and get real. Like, real, real. And we got it. We’ve got you covered with a frooty bag of mixed goods, but they’re all probably really good for you. And, it was good for us too, so good, that we’ve re-imagined the site in “Deco-Ndebele in Space” (Total trend alert *snaps)
This fashion editorial, Weekend Special, shot by Steve Marais, conceptualised/styled by Melissa Maxted-Henderson and art directed by Colin O’Mara Davis is our fave of the issue, although they’re all really great. It features drawings layered on top of the photographs by a line-up of talented local illustrators.
