05 Jun Introducing: Alexander’s Band
We’re really excited to introduce Alexander’s Band, a brand new independent illustration representation service.
Alexander’s Band was started by illustrator (with a love for the business side if things), Emma Cook. She says, ” I’ve been in illustration for the last 6 years. For the last 3 I have been freelancing while building up the knowledge base to launch Alexander’s Band. I have a unique perspective when it comes to illustration representation in SA because, hey, I’m one of you. I know and understand every step of what we do and the challenges that face us. I also respect the challenges that face art buyers and production folks whom I have always enjoyed working with.”
The company’s name is borrowed from an optical phenomenon. In 200 AD Alexander of Aphrodisias noticed that when two rainbows appeared in the sky an area of unlit sky could be seen between them. This unlit arc of sky is what is known as Alexander’s Band.
Every artist represented has been hand-picked as a leader in South African illustration with each representing different yet equally accomplished styles. Which means Alexander’s Band is launching with an already impressive line-up, including a few of our favourites.
The illustrators are Alice Edy, Adam Hill, Joey Hi-Fi, David Maclennan, Emma Cook, Gareth Jones, Hanno Van Zyl, Jade Klara, Robyn Mitchell, Ryan De Carte and Si Maclennan.
