30 Jul Interpret Durban 4
Imagine you could own the city. Imagine you could step into its heart. Imagine for a moment that that heart was in need of a kick start. Now imagine that kick start was you… Interpret Durban is back!
On the 31st August 2013 the doors to Durban City Hall shall open at 5pm to mark the start of Interpret Durban 4. Interpret Durban 4 (or ID4 as its more commonly called) as an event has all the hallmarks of being the kind of experience those who attend talk about for weeks after, and those who don’t lament for a full year before getting a chance to see what all the fuss was about when the next one comes around. So what’s it all about then?
Interpret Durban is a multi-faceted creative contest running throughout the month of August. Artists are called to get involved in the various categories and the competition culminates in the main Interpret Durban event, which features exhibitions of the selected submissions, the awards ceremony, live music and needless to say…party.
This year’s ID4 theme is: The Concrete Circus, and prizes of up to R120 000 are up for the taking.
Why The Concrete Circus? Some say it’s because we’re all animals on show; whilst others just reckon the organisers thought it sounded amazing. Ultimately, it is up to you as the artist/creative to extract your own meaning and interpret the city through this theme.
Selected work from the following categories will be exhibited on the night, and the winners announced.
- T-shirt Design
- Short Film
- Mix Medium
Interpret Durban is hosted by Street Scene and Intertwine in collaboration with eThekwini Municipality, the KZNIA and Spingleap.
