21 Aug Behind the Scenes at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town took place earlier this month, from the 7th to the 10th of August. While the shows are, of course, the main attraction much of the action takes place behind the scenes, where only a backstage pass will get you in. These are some exceptional (and some unseen until now) behind the scenes shots and short films by photographers Gregor Röhrig, Waldo Pretorius and Kent Andreasen.
Gregor Röhrig backstage at Lara Klawikowski:
Gregor Röhrig is a South African born artist who is best known for work in the areas of street and urban landscape photography. Predominantly shot in black & white, his photojournalistic style is distinctive and his images emotionally charged. His approach is candid and his work is spontaneous, edgy and irreverent.
This is a series documenting the backstage process at Cape Town designer Lara Klawikowski’s MBFWCT 2013 show.
Waldo Pretorius for ELLE Magazine SA:
Waldo Pretorius has spent close to a decade developing and creating his understanding of photography. Waldo is often found documenting the excitement and at times mad panic behind the scenes at South African fashion weeks. For MBFWCT, he created this short film for ELLE magazine SA.
Kent Andreasen backstage at Adriaan Kuiters + Jody Paulsen:
Kent Andreasen is a Cape Town-based photographer, filmmaker and cinematography student whose work is most often characterized by intriguing play with light and shadow. At this year’s CT fashion week, he was the official photographer for A fashion friend, where you can see more of his work. This is a short film and a series of images he captured for Adriaan Kuiters + Jody Paulsen at their first collaborative show.
