23 Aug The New B&W Photography: Jessica Hunkin
The New B&W Photography is a film photography exhibition we’re hosting next Thursday together with This Is Film and Orms. The group show will feature ten up and coming photographers, one of them being Johannesburg-based Jessica Hunkin.
Jessica spent last year studying photography at Vega, and has since been working on a freelance basis while making a point of exploring other, non-photography related fields for a broader scope. True to her varied interests, Jessica enjoys a variety of photography styles and genres. Though most interested in portraiture she also has a love for travel, still life and fine art photography.
As for mediums, she says, “I mostly shoot digital, but I’ve always preferred film and I would love nothing more than to own a large format film camera one day (preferably one the size of a van like Ian Ruhter’s, but I’m flexible.)” In her promising future she sees herself combining writing with photography, saying, “I love these things separately but even more when they’re paired together in interesting ways.”
