28 Aug The New B&W Photography: Katja Marr
At 16, Katja’s film camera was her first serious introduction to the art of photography. She says, “It had always been a fascination of mine to capture fleeting moments, as well as create atmospheres that evoke an emotion in the viewer. I’ve never considered moving to digital, as I am utterly in love with the process and results of film photography.”
For both personal reasons as well as her interest in female interactions, Katja’s subject matter explores themes such as the female muse, nymphets and sisterhood. These themes she combines with current fashion trends which results in work that, while dreamy, has an edge. In the future she plans to focus on shooting women in a variety of different environments and moods. She adds, “I feel like my work is rooted in my obsession with chasing and creating beauty. I want it to serve as a sort of escapism into a storyline created by the viewer’s own mind.”
