The New B&W Photography: Jess Sara Wright

Jess Sara Wright

In a few hours we’ll be opening The New B&W Photography exhibition along with This Is Film and Orms! Here we make the final introduction before the show opens. Meet Jess Sara Wright.

Jess Sara Wright is a Cape Town-based creative, currently in her second year of Visual Communication and Graphic Design at Stellenbosch University. Photography has always been, and still is, a sidekick interest that she’s continually played around with and slowly taught herself. Jess’s fascination with photographic documentation is combined with a love for exploring, travelling and the outdoors, making photojournalism and travel photography her dream day-jobs.

She says, “I prefer working by hand rather than creating computer-generated work, so the need to be physically involved in the photographic process is what drew me in initially, I think. I shoot predominantly in digital format, but occasionally on film, which I find fun.” ‘Fun’ is also the way Jess describes her attitude towards her own photography which she tries not to take too seriously, as to not lose the joy in it. She adds, “I find my current university degree is concept-driven and about doing something for a reason, so it’s a refreshing change for me to just appreciate and acknowledge the world I live in, and to do it only because I want to.”
