29 Aug The New B&W Photography: Sipho Mpongo
Born in the Eastern Cape and raised in Cape Town, Sipho is currently completing his first year at the Cape Town School of Photography. Back in high school, he met Karen Page who introduced him to multimedia and soon after he became a member of Iliso Labantu; a photo club offering mentorship by the likes of David Southwood, Alistair Berg, and Charlie Shoemaker. Through Iliso Labantu, Sipho exhibited at the AVA gallery in 2012 and took part in the Cape Town Month of Photography. He also presented in a slideshow exhibition in San Francisco at a Teach with Africa gala dinner.
Sipho hopes to do anthropological research through his photography and to capture daily life around him. Of film he says, “Film is the best. You are obligated to focus thoroughly on what you are shooting and sort of anticipate the result.”
