Gallery Roundup: I

Here’s a sneak peak of who and what some of the galleries will be showing in their booths at the FNB Joburg Art Fair:

The Print Gallery

The South African Print Gallery was established in 2009 by Gabriel Clark-Brown who, as a master printmaker with over 20 years’ experience, seeks to promote the appreciation and knowledge of South African printmaking. The emphasis of the gallery is on more than simply promoting the leading names but rather focuses on the diverse approach, quality and unique style of individual prints by both well-known and obscure artists.

Lizamore & Associates

The FNB Joburg Art Fair will see the rebranding of Artspace Gallery, Johannesburg as Lizamore & Associates. Artspace was established in 2001 by Teresa Lizamore and has been showing the work of new and emerging artists, as well as established contemporary South African artists for over ten years.

Who are some of the artists you will be featuring at the FNB Joburg Art Fair this year?

This year, Lizamore & Associates will be featuring the work of Benon Lutaaya and and Pat Sithole. Other artists that will be exhibiting with us are Karin Preller, Richard Smith, Heike Allerton- Davies, Kilmany-Jo Liversage, Louis Olivier, Ruhan Jansen van Vuuren.

What kinds of works (medium) can we expect to see?

Lizamore & Associates’s booth at the FNB Joburg Art Fair will host a wide variety of works, ranging from sculpture, painting and paper collage. Pat Sithole paints vibrant objects and portraits in acrylic on canvas. After working in pastels for the past two years, Sithole has developed a new unique style in acrylics.  He explores objects and figures as part of revealing our memories. Objects that spark great memories we had through the course of our lives, some reveals bad memories and others are good. Lizamore & Associates’s other featured artist, Benon Lutaay, has developed a unique style in acrylics and paper collage. Lutaaya manipulates his medium to unearth new and unexpected creative destinations, while exploring the fragility and resilience of his subjects. It is the essence of the human condition to feel emotion, and the challenge of the artist to portray it, something Lutaaya does with the utmost integrity.

The selection of artists that Lizamore & Associates brings to the fair reflects the gallery’s belief that a selection of new emerging artists along with more established artists gives buyers and collectors a wide spread choice and encourages growth in the art market.

Brundyn + Gonsalves

Brundyn + Gonsalves was established in 2006 in Cape Town. The gallery has rapidly earned a reputation as a port of call for keen local and international collectors and curators seeking both established and emerging South African contemporary art talent.

Who are some of the artists you will be featuring at the FNB Joburg Art Fair this year?

We will be showing work from Mohau Modisakeng, Tom Cullberg, Chad Rossouw, Liza Grobler, Matty Roodt and Miranda Moss.

What kinds of works (medium) can we expect to see?

There will be quite a variety: abstract paintings from Tom Cullberg, mixed media works from Liza Grobler and Matty Roodt, photography from Mohau Modisakeng and Chad Rossouw and sculpture from Miranda Moss. There will also be a brand new video work from Mohau Modisakeng, which will be featured in a special project in association with Samsung.

Having a variety of different media helps to keep things interesting. It was important for us to have a visually engaging booth with a diverse assortment of quality artworks that work well in relation to each other.  We also made sure that there was work from both established and emerging young artists in our booth.
