17 Sep Peter After Peter by Anton du Preez | Film Screening
‘Peter after Peter’, a new film by Anton du Preez, is an affectionate character study of the filmmaker’s neighbor and friend of many years. Previously, Peter worked as a sales rep for Olivetti selling typewriters and winning the Staff Prize year on year for optimum sales. Peter thinks salesmanship is the same as acting and truly believes that his success at one guarantees his success at the other.
Peter’s acting debut came five years ago playing himself in Anton’s short film titled ‘Peter’. Shortlisted for Ridley Scott’s ‘A day in the Life’ series, the film was broadcast nationally on SABC 2. In Peter’s mind, a star was born. In 2010 Peter landed the lead role in the short narrative film ‘Rocket Man’. Screened at Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner later that year, the short subsequently went on to win the Daazo Impossible prize.
‘Peter after Peter’ follows the stages Peter goes through in order to become a working performer; conceptualizing and producing a z-card, meetings with potential agents and various castings. The film will be shown at a screening in Cape Town tomorrow night.
Peter is currently represented by a small character agency and has started his journey as an aspiring actor. Self-promotion. Failure. Success. Failure. Peter, after Peter.
