Toya Delazy: Memoriam Music Video

Recently released, the heart-tugging music video for Toya Delazy’s ballad Memoriam was directed by Fausto Becatti.   Delazy wrote Memoriam in honour of a teacher who passed away in 2009, and it is also reminiscent of her mother, Princess Lethuxolo. Delazy says, “Writing Memoriam was cathartic. It was a way for me to let go of the pain that I was burying deep inside. I believe that God gives and God takes away and I’d like to believe that my mom is in a better place, rather than viewing it as a horrible tragedy. It’s this positive message that I was hoping to bring through my music.”   Fausto Becatti was approached to direct the video after Delazy’s management saw the video he did for Spoek Mathambo. Reflecting on the project, he says:   “The opportunity to work with Toya was really exciting, and I fell in love with the track from the moment I heard it. It’s a very powerful track and I thought it would allow for an equally powerful video. I feel the song shows a different side to Toya and her previous singles, and I wanted to express the emotional intensity of the song in both her look and the story of the video. I think she was really brave to give me the freedom to move in a new direction for her with this video. I wanted to do a video that would tell strong stories that would resonate with people on an emotional level. We only had one crazy week to put it all together.”   Credits:   Production Company: Picture Tree Director: Fausto Becatti Producer: Darren Gordon DOP: Trevor Calverly Art Direction: Adi Koen Post: Left Post Editor: Joe De Ornelas Online: Michael Naidoo Grade: Nic Apostoli @ Pudding With special thanks to Propstars   Toya Delazy 2
