23 Oct Out of Office: Daleahs
For Daleah Arvanitis, opening her own New York-style daytime bistro was a long-standing dream. Earlier this year, that dream began to take shape and develop into what is today, Daleahs – the bustling Braamfontein eatery housed within “that bright green building”.
As Braamfontein has boomed in the last new months, this quirky little eatery has become a firm favourite of the young and trendy who work in the area to meet and mingle over lunch, coffee, or in fact at any time of the day. The Wi-Fi is free and unlimited, and the atmosphere decidedly relaxed and welcoming. The interior does well to mimic its New York inspiration, with a raw brick wall straight out of a 90s sit-com set. Cookbooks and trinkets are scattered about, which makes the space feel personal, in a good, authentic way. It’s the perfect place to meet to discuss a project, last Friday night, or go to get some work done.
The menu is varied, and makes an effort to cater to as wide an appeal as possible. The all-day breakfasts are always popular, and the sliders (beef, chicken and brown mushroom) a firm favourite. There’re also sandwiches, pastas and salads – all the classic daytime eats. On the drinks side, try the rose milk, a loose-leaf tea or freshly squeezed juice if you’re in the mood for a caffeine alternative.
You will find Daleahs at number 6 De Beer Street, Braamfontein
Opening hours are Tuesday – Friday, 8:30am – 5pm
