FINE BRANDY. BY DESIGN™ Bar Design Initiative

Distell and Design Indaba came together and launched the FINE BRANDY. BY DESIGN™  Bar Design Initiative competition in February this year at the Design Indaba. They challenged 10 designers to design the ultimate modular bar, that would enhance consumer experience at tasting events. The brief was to ‘Think Outside the Bar’.

 

The three finalists have been announced. They are Peet van Staaten of Raw StudiosYolandi Kotze a final year Interior Design student at CPUT, and Ryan Roberts of RobertsCreative.

 

The challenge was to design a modular, mobile bar which could fit into a 10m wide x 10m long x 3m high space. It needed to be functional, so the design had to include refrigeration, a sink, and space for the brandy, of course. It also has to serve 600 attendees. The design had to be stylish, functional, innovative, and not exceed construction costs of R200 000.

 

The overall winner will be announced at the 2014 Design Indaba, where a life-size version of the winning bar will be displayed, and used to serve brandy and brandy cocktails from. The prize includes R50 000 cash, a VIP Design Indaba 2014 experience, and some Fine Brandy, of course.
