Openings This Week: JHB – A group of artists respond to Lauren Beukes’ Zoo City and a couple shows to catch before they come down


There are two openings this week in Joburg – new pencil drawings by John Phalane, and a group exhibition loosely grouped around the thematics of Lauren Beukes’ novel, Zoo City. There are also a couple great exhibitions still running that are well worth a look.

Zoo, a group show curated by Ann-Marie Tully and Neil Nieuwoudt at NIROXProjects




zoo [zuː] n pl zoos: A place, activity, or group marked by chaos, strange, or unrestrained behaviour.

This group exhibition gathers together a group of established and emerging artists whose artwork relates in theme/manner/medium to Lauren Beukes’ Arthur C Clarke award-winning novel, Zoo City (2011).
