Last week, as part of First Thursdays, Merchants on Long played host to a selection of exhibited photographs by acclaimed fashion photographer, Ulrich Knoblauch. Based in Cape Town for the most part, and known for his beautiful editorial work often shot in studio, it’s not unusual to find Ulrich shooting behind the fast paced scenes at international fashion weeks.
The showcase at Merchants, which remains up until this Thursday, is a collection of 25 images captured by Ulrich for Paris-based fashion and culture biannual, Self Service magazine, at this season’s NY and Paris fashion weeks. The documentary-style images feature everything you’d imagine from these majors shows; from Grace Coddington’s iconic red hair, to luxe details at Isabel Marant, and famous faces caught in the front row.
The location, an African concept store specializing in African design, fashion, art and homeware, also exhibited a fashion film for knitwear brand Maxhosa by Laduma on the night.
