Summer has officially started, and the galleries in Cape Town are celebrating with five group shows, a group exploration, a summer art sale, a ‘Living Gallery’ show in Langa Township, and a magazine launch.

The Erotickles III, a group art event and exhibition happens at Assembly.
Artists include: Andy Neuro, Marijolize Rossouw, Penelope Frog, Stephen Mohacsy, Martin Lund, Hilary Randle (Emeraldfoxtattoo), Leigh Donny Cupido, Anwar Davids, Sean Ross Fawkes, Liam Neser, Jon Case (Body Architects), Ken Bull-andSmith, Anthony Nosgoth van Wyk, Shaun Dean (Emeraldfoxtattoo) and Keenan Knee (Emeraldfoxtattoo), Caitlin Eybers, Michaela Brandt and a few other surprise guests.

Reportage artist Sarah Lambourne‘s first South African show opens at Langa Township Art Gallery.
This show is part of a ‘Living Gallery’ moment, involving various homes in Langa where the art will be showcased, giving visitors the opportunity to view art within the context of the daily lives of the Langa township.

CLRS in situ, Volume 1 Kalkoennes, a group exploration of Kalkoennes in Kogmanskloof opens at CLRS&Co.
CLRS in situ is an independently published periodical that depicts their exploration of Kalkoennes in Kogmanskloof through installation, using the sheer cliffs that rear up from a secluded bend in the river as both delimitation and inspiration. Planning what they could, the rest open to experiment and possible catastrophe, the exhibition documents their process and its eventual result in publication, print, video and food.
Artists include Marcii Goose, Dale Lawrence, Claire Johnson, Franco Fernandes, Ethne Mudge, Bruce Mackay, Christine Joubert, Mareli Esterhuizen, Robert Nicholls, Michael Lumby and Maria Stemmet.

Prufrock’s Summer edition, A Tall Drink of Water, Issue 3 launches at The Book Lounge.
This Third Issue of Prufrock (A magazine of mighty fine writing: short fiction, long non-fiction, poetry) features Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout, poems by Songeziwe Mahlangu (author of Penumbra), Mvelo Dlamini’s “Meet the Buffoons”, Nick Mulgrew on South Africa’s Drag kings and queens. Rosa Lyster returns with an essay on picnics in books. Also watch out for Olivia Walton, Rebecca Haysom, Matthew King, and Philip Kramer in this issue.
They’ll also announce the winner of the Fox & Raven & Prufrock Genre Fiction Competition at the launch.

In Good Company | A Cape Summer Show, a group show curated by Michael Chandler, opens at Irma Stern Gallery.
This exhibition showcases artworks that celebrate Summer in the first garden in Cape Town – the Company Gardens.

Rose Korber Art Summer Show opens.
An exhibition featuring current and vintage artworks, showcasing paintings, mixed media works, original limited-edition prints, photography, sculpture, ceramics and contemporary Shangaan beadwork. This year’s show features works by William Kentridge and the late Erik Laubscher, as well as a large conceptual work by Kevin Atkinson produced in 1975.
