South African fashion favourites Jackie Burger, Crystal Birch, Arthur Malan-Murison and Keith Henning of Adriaan Kuiters join the likes of Andy Murray, Sky Ferreira and Max Greenfield (Schmidt from New Girl!) in welcoming back the iconic Stan Smith, designated as the signature sneaker of American tennis champion Stan Smith in 1972.
Smith’s namesake shoe was there when he won titles in major tournaments, including the 1968 U.S. Open, 1970 Australian Open and 1972 Wimbledon titles. Transcending far beyond its success as merely a tennis sneaker, though, the shoe has evolved to become a revered style icon, loved by designers, editors and collectors alike. As a result, the shoe has been introduced in numerous colors and fabrics over the years, in addition to the classic, all-white with-green-ankle-tab option, becoming adidas’ best-selling shoe of all time, with over 30 million pairs sold.
Re-launched recently as a new silhouette, the adidas original is being celebrated in a global campaign featuring influencers giving a shout-out to the classic. Representing the South African component of the campaign are:
Editor of ELLE South Africa, Jackie Burger
Stylist and Milliner Crystal Birch
Designer behind menswear label Adriaan Kuiters, Keith Henning
Creative Fashion Director at GQ Style South Africa, Arthur Malan-Murison
The Stan Smith shoes are available at adidas Originals stores as well as a store is good in Cape Town at a recommended retail price of R999.00.
