Shine Shine is a busy and bold, Africa-inspired, Cape Town-based brand of fabrics and products founded by Tracy Rushmere and developed with graphic designer Heidi Chisholm (of Mr Somebody & Mr Nobody).
The brand stems from Tracy’s love of textiles – the brighter the better – especially the commemorative, political and religious ones used to tell stories; West Africa’s Ankara and East Africa’s Kanga. Tracy wanted to create a more contemporary and urban-influenced version of these.
Beginning as a fabric brand, produced in Cape Town using a rotary printing technique, Shine Shine naturally grew to include products from iPad bags to homeware. The most recent additions are a range of blankets and new tray designs. Shine Shine has also been known to collaborate with brands who share their vision. Earlier this year they wowed visitors to Design Indaba with a collaboration with made-in-Africa SAWA Shoes. Local brand King Juliet have also used Shine Shine fabrics for their newly launched Big Boy Shorts.
Tracy says Shine Shine has always been incredibly well received in Europe and America and has recently had a massive response from an article in French ELLE Decoration. Locally the wares can be shopped at Big Blue, African Image, and Quirky Me.
