Earth Hour is a global WWF initiative asking people to switch off their lights for one hour to make a stand against climate change, and to turn this awareness into action beyond the hour. This year’s Earth Hour takes place tomorrow the 29th of March 2014 from 20:30 to 21:30.
This charming DStv ad is in support of Earth Hour and encourages their customers to switch off for 60 minutes and use that time to honour the Earth in unique and special ways. They said, “DStv essentially depends on electricity to do what it does – entertain customers. It may therefore seem a little strange to support an initiative that promotes the exact opposite – but in the greater scheme of things, the cause was far greater than the semantics. We created a spot that not only supports Earth Hour but also celebrates the world we need to conserve.”
The ad is by Studio Zoo who teamed up with director Chloe Coetsee of Fringe/Bouffant, DOP Rob Wilson and art director Gerhard van Zyl to make magic by candlelight. The team didn’t need to cast for this project at all as the mom in the ad is Puppeteer Elsje van Zyl, who created the beautiful and intricate shadow puppets, and the children are her three daughters who were more than happy to help bring them to life.
