On The Spot | In The Judges’ Chamber

The next phase of the RAB’s (Radio Advertising Bureau) campaign for braver radio has been revealed. Exactly one month ago they launched ‘On the Spot’ a challenge to SA ad agencies to make bolder, smarter and more entertaining radio ads. They said, “Let’s create radio content that changes the way the advertising and media industry sees radio as a platform.” Ten agencies took them up on their challenge and presented their attempts to a panel of judges. The agencies had two weeks to conceptualise before piloting their ideas at Sonovision in Joburg and The Work Room in Cape Town.

This is a look at what went down in the judges’ chamber before four finalists were chosen. They are: FCB South Africa, Young and Rubicam Johannesburg, Black River FC and Fox P2 Cape Town. These teams will now have the opportunity to take the judges comments into account and craft their final pieces before they are flighted and entered into Loeries.

The ten participating agencies were:

FoxP2 Cape Town
Ogilvy Johannesburg
Lowe Bull Cape Town
King James II
Black River FC
Ireland Davenport
Net#work BBDO
DraftFCB Johannesburg
Joe Public
Y&R Johannesburg
