Musician and radio personality Jon Savage is making a movie based on and starring a large contingent of the South African rock music industry. The official trailer, above, was released earlier this week. Titled ‘Stone Cold Jane Austen’ the ‘rockumentary’ is the untold story of a fictitious band of the same name introduced as one of the greatest bands that ever lived, who inspired a revolution, yet failed to break through to the mainstream. The band members are played by Jon himself and comedian Rob Van Vuuren.
The film features interviews with SA music legends, journalists and rival bands including the likes of Chris Chameleon, Fokofpolisiekar, Arno Carsten, Randall Abrahams, BLK JKS, Jack Parow, aKING, The Parlotones, Die Heuwels Fantasties and even Daniel Beddingfield.
With the backing of the music industry locked down, Jon is now looking for financial backing by raising funds on Indiegogo to complete the movie. He says, “For three long years, I’ve been secretly making this comedy about the South African music industry. But there are some really important (and hilarious) scenes that we just can’t afford to shoot, including one of the funniest car chases you will ever see. Oh and the scene with the stripper. Oh and the fight scene.”
The finished film will be accompanied by a soundtrack co-written by Hunter Kennedy.
