Openings This Week: CT | Two group shows, a SparkTour event and Cape Town World Music Festival

This week Cape Town hosts two groups show openings, a SparkTour Africa event celebrating local innovators and the Cape Town World Music Festival. It’s also Third Thursdays in the East City. Here’s the what, when and where:


Wednesday, 16 July


Amazing South Africans, a SparkTour Africa event, celebrates local social entrepreneurs improving health, education, energy and the environment in Cape Town.

Quentin Noire from France travelled all around SA to find and share the work that local innovators do and this event will show how it is possible to have a positive impact in Cape Town. Meet Misha Teasdale (co-founder and Tree-E-O of GreenPop), Trudy Vlok (Managing Director of The Big Issue South Africa), Buntu Kwinan (Project Manager of Grassroot Soccer), Detlev Meyer (CEO of Reliance Compost) and Tracey Gilmore (co-founder of The Clothing Bank).

Factory Girls, a group exhibition opens at James Mudge Furniture Studio




Factory Girls is a group exhibition of works by Bella Kannemeyer, Daniella Mooney, Rosie Mudge, Lauren Palte, Chloë Reid, Matty Roodt, Marion Sandwith and Morné Visagie. Curated by Rosie Mudge.

1000 Drawings Doodle Session at Field Office




Draw anything, with anything, on anything A5 for a good cause. Come on down to {field office} for a little doodle session and then head off to Twenty Fifty for a movie screening, or just stay doodling because you love it. We supply materials for your doodling needs but if you like to use specific materials please bring them along.

Paint Matters


Paint Matters is an exhibition of selected works highlighting recent developments in painting by emerging and established South African artists. Paint Matters will include work by Alexia Vogel, Jan-Henri Booyens, Virginia MacKenny, Asha Zero, Tracy Payne, Jaco van Schalkwyk, Sarah Biggs, Khaya Witbooi, Ryan Hewett, Ndikhumbule Ngqinambi, Katherine Spindler, Nike Romano, Alexandra Karakashian and Katherine Bull.

Cape Town World Music Festival happens at Cape Town City Hall




Celebrating all that is good and creative in the world, this year’s #CTWMF2014 is billed as a festival of Music and Light with performances by some of the continent’s (and globe’s) finest musicians, as well as informative TED style talks on music, art and light by the brightest minds this side of the equator. This year there are three stages: The Main Stage, The Seated Stage and The Electronic Stage. All the stages will feature top quality sound and visuals as well as an ambience unlike any other.
