Weltstad – Who Creates The City?

Weltstadt – who creates the city? is an initiative of the Goethe-Institut that connects local projects in Riga, New York, Johannesburg, Seoul, Ulan Bator, Belgrade, Dakar, Bangalore, several cities in Brazil and in Southwestern Europe. The Johannesburg component of Weltstadt is a summary of the Informal Studio: Marlboro South and the [In]formal City project conducted in Berlin and Johannesburg. Both projects investigate the complex relationships between the formal and informal development processes and practices related to city-making.

The Goethe-Institut, 119 Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkwood

The Turbine Art Fair

TAF14 improves where the first event left off with increased emphasis on new work and the promotion of emerging South African artists. While still accessible, (all artworks will be priced below R30 000) TAF14 will see a greater importance placed on quality and innovation. In addition to being able to see and buy accessible art from over 40 of South Africa’s leading galleries, visitors will be introduced to all aspects of the art world through an extensive educational talks programme. Three streams of talks will be introduced this year; an introduction to the art world, artist workshops on the art of business and informal discussion groups.
