Jameson First Shot 2014 + A Look Back At The 2012/2013 Films

It’s almost time for the reveal of this year’s winning Jameson First Shot short films. The annual, international filmmaking competition, now in its third year, is presented by Jameson Irish Whiskey and Trigger Street Productions‘ two-time Academy Award winning actor Kevin Spacey as Creative Director and Academy Award nominated producer Dana Brunetti. The contest offers three aspiring writer/directors, from South Africa, Russia and the USA, the chance to make a short film with a professional crew and production company and starring a world-famous actor. This year Uma Thurman will take on the lead role following on from Creative Director Kevin Spacey in 2012 and Willem Dafoe in 2013. The success of the first two years of the competition has seen nearly 12 million people tune in to watch the winning films on the Jameson YouTube channel, where you can follow the current winners’ journeys.

The 2014 winners are Ivan Petukhov from Moscow, Russia, Jessica Valentine from Washington, USA and Henco Jacobs from Pretoria, South Africa.

Ivan’s script The Gift follows Miss Anderson who works at the city department store wrapping gifts. An extraordinary encounter with Mr Grimm, an illusionist, makes her see magic all around her. Jessica’s story, Jump! is set during a 48 hour observation at a psychiatric facility where Jack meets Wendy, a young woman with a unique obsession. Henco will be directing his story, The Mundane Goddess which focuses on Hera, queen of the Greek Gods, who seeks answers from a therapist about her boring home life.

After being flown out to Hollywood, they worked directly with Trigger Street Productions on everything from casting to approving wardrobe and locations during pre-production. Each winner worked on set to direct Uma Thurman in the lead role in their film, before ending their experience by working with a composer on the score and signing off the final edit, ensuring their film is ready to be showcased to a global audience of millions. This weekend the final products will be revealed at the global premiere in Los Angeles.
