Cool Your Jets is an independent creative studio with a fantastic name producing high quality graphic, motion and game design – and high-neon, lo-fi illustrations of animals in co-founder Ben Rausch’s signature style. We know this because yesterday they launched a brand new portfolio website and showreel featuring their latest. But also because we have been following their journey for quite some time.
Cool Your Jets was founded in 2011 by directors Matthew McFarlane and Ben Rausch after discussing starting a company together for numerous years. Both multi-skilled creatives, Ben and Matt enjoy designing work that combines traditional illustration, hand-crafted stop-motion, glossy 3D renders, cute vector work, tasteful typography, original live-action footage, messy cell animation and, most recently, retro-influenced pixel art. Their aim has always been to realise projects with as much enthusiasm, originality and fun as the duo (and we love a good duo) can muster.
Between the release of their last reel and now, they have worked on a 1 minute TV commercial for pop legends ABBA, a re-imaging of the world and graphics for kids’ show Takalani Sesame and a huge spread of music videos for artists from South Africa, The UK and Europe; proving that the last year (mid-2013 to mid-2014) has been the most exciting for them to date. With game design now proudly added to their list of services offered, their most recent production is a four level puzzle-platformer video game for the insurance group, Telesure. All of these projects can be found highlighted in their new showreel, above, or in full on their new site.
Another highlight since we last checked in is that the team has grown to include music composer, sound designer, illustrator, animator and renaissance man, Jason Sutherland.
