A short and sweet Ads This Week including a branded content campaign for Volkswagen Caddy and two new TV commercials, one for Defy and one for FNB.

Volkswagen and road trips are synonymous, which is why some of South Africa’s biggest names are setting off on #CaddyonTour adventures: multi-day road trips in a Volkswagen Caddy.

 

The digital campaign, running from August to November 2014, aims to highlight the Caddy’s versatility by documenting well-known and diverse influencers as they travel around Mzansi. #CaddyonTour kicked off in August with rock band aKING who travelled to the 20th Oppikoppi music festival. September sees Elvis Blue spending some quality time with his family along the Garden Route, followed by adventurers Ryan Sandes and Vanessa Haywood who head off for an adrenaline-filled weekend in October, just weeks before they head down the aisle.

FNB “Reinvention” by DDB

Over the past few years FNB has become synonymous with innovation. Their online service, device deals and rewards schemes have literally changed day-to-day banking. The Bank adopted the same approach when restructuring their saving and investment products, allowing clients to invest any amount they choose, over any period and with any access. All that was required was to take dry “bank-speak” and turn it into compelling advertising. Taking this into consideration DDB set out to truly define who FNB is and came up with the enviable positioning line, “Save with the bank that reinvented banking”. The commercial highlights the importance of reinvention in humanity’s progress and tells of how FNB has just reinvented the savings and investment category.

Defy ‘Believe in Better’ by Ogilvy & Mather Durban and Velocity Films

 

 

The new Defy commercial directed by Rob Malpage, in collaboration with Ogilvy & Mather Durban, features energy entrepreneur Siyabulela Xuza.  The commercial walks viewers through the journey of his success story, which fittingly reflects the brand’s new ethos. The campaign invites the viewer to “Believe in Better” and strive for excellence, as Defy does.
