The Business of Design is an exciting seminar/talks programme by leading South African design professionals aimed at fast-tracking the way designers and design businesses think and perform to significantly expand their local and international markets. This workshop series will provide designers, artisans, manufacturers and small-to-medium sized design businesses with guidance and practical tools to improve their business acumen to better realise the commercial potential of their creative talent.
Founded by Laurence Brick and Cathy O’Clery of Platform Creative Agency, who are also the creative duo behind 100% Design South Africa; and Trevyn and Julian McGowan of SOURCE, Southern Guild and GUILD International Design Fair, who together have over 80 years of hands-on industry experience to share.
The two-day programme will see talks, panel discussions workshops and presentations with 34 of South Africa’s most recognised design leaders, creative visionaries and business specialists – covering fields such as marketing, media, accountancy, copyright and intellectual property, commerciality, product development, branding, exporting to international markets, general inspiration and keys to success.
Additionally, the Business of Design Scholarship Fund has been introduced to support the business-skills development of promising creative entrepreneurs who lack the means to cover the full fee of the talk seminars, and Business of Design will be approaching companies to fund such scholarships.
Who should attend?
Designers, artisans, craft producers, manufacturers, heads of small-to-medium creative enterprises, small retailers and wholesalers, and recent design graduates who are serious about achieving commercial success.
