Pilgrim, by Nathan Vuuren, Louis Olivier, and Lehlongonolo Mashaba

Taking their cue from a metaphorical pilgrimage, artists participating in this exhibition, explore figure studies whilst on a personal pilgrimage, re-examining their own ideas and interpretations of portraiture and figure studies. Using various mediums – sculpture, painting, printmaking, and collage – the artists deconstruct and reconstruct figures, either physically or through the influence of digital and social media.

Joburg Photo Umbrella launch & A Return to Elsewhere opening

A Return to Elsewhere is a collaboration between photographers Kalpesh Lathigra (UK) and Thabiso Sekgala (1981 – 2014) (SA) to develop work within communities in two primary locations, Marabastad and Laudium, South Africa and Brighton, in the UK. Exploring understandings of belonging, histories, silences, memory and loss; it creates narratives, and raises questions, around truth and fiction and notions of connect and disconnect.
