By now you must’ve seen the eye-opening Hollaback! PSA on YouTube, “10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman”, that recently went viral. Through a hidden camera, the video shows a woman walking around New York City for 10 hours to expose the rampant street harassment from the men she passes.
The video prompted Cape Town ad agency M&C Saatchi Abel to create this response for their client The Haven Night Shelter. Using the same hidden camera technique, they captured a homeless man walking through the streets of Cape Town and the lack of acknowledgment he receives from the public. The video is called “Four hours of walking in Cape Town as a homeless man” and asks the question, “Is getting no attention as bad (or worse) than getting too much?”.
They said, “We examined just how invisible homeless people are to the rest of us, on behalf of our client The Haven Night Shelter. The result was far more moving than even we expected.”
