This week’s exhibition openings in the Mother City include the Bag Factory’s Fortunes Remixed, an exploration of popular culture titled Look Mickey!, the Sasol New Signatures competition’s Western Cape finalists showcase as well as Artmode, a mixed media show at Youngblood. Tuesday, 11 November
An exhibition of work by the Western Cape Finalists for the Sasol New Signatures competition is opening at Erdmann Contemporary.
Artists include Lucienne Bestall, Liesl Brenzel, Paris Brummer, Anwar Davids, Daniel Joubert, Alexandra Karakashian, Bronwyn Katz, Lorienne Lotz, Bert Pauw, Juanette Smuts, Evan Wigdorowitz, Adriaan Diedericks, Brett Ashley Gendall, Christel Liebenberg, Marguerite Roux, Jessica Lee Staple, Shona van der Merwe, Anika van der Westhiujzen, Nicoléne Van Der Walt.

Look Mickey! a group exhibition is opening at 34FineArt.
The exhibition will feature works by several well known local and international artists, who have in various ways appropriated this iconic image of popular culture.

PechaKucha Night Volume 31 takes place at The Assembly.
The presentation format is based on 20 images X 20 seconds each per speaker. People share their ideas, works, thoughts, passions – just about anything really.

Trendtalk #9 is taking place at Inner City Ideas Cartel.
This trendtalk promises yet another prolific line-up: Southern Guild founder Trevyn McGowan, John Sanei of Future Collective and trendtalk founder Lauren Shantall will all be presenting. These industry shakers and shifters will be sharing visuals, provocative ideas and thoughts on lifestyle changes in line with the talk’s “Looking Ahead to 2015” theme.

Bag Factory presents Fortunes Remixed, a travelling group show which kicks off at at the ARTsouthAFRICA_ Gallery.
Fortunes Remixed is an exhibition that considers contextual ‘freedom’ and ‘democracy’ as experienced by young South Africans in relation to their elders. This exhibition looks at South Africa’s journey, how artists have related to it and what their position is on South African identity and our future. Artists include Igshaan Adams, Zyma Amien, Burning Museum, Jarrett Erasmus, Jessica Foli, David Koloane, Pat Mautloa, Pebofatso Mokoena, Michelle Monareng, Lerato Shadi, Penny Siopis, Jo Voysey, Jessica Webster.

Artmode, a collaboration of art, music and creativity is opening at Youngblood Gallery.
As a project that aims to join together some of the top talent across multiple genres of art, music and creativity, all three floors of the Youngblood Gallery will be put to use to showcase a multitude of expressive mediums. Artmode provides a platform for both established and budding creatives to express themselves in an environment that aims to inspire the ultimate space to create. The line-up of showcased artists spans across a diversity of styles, mediums, forms and influences. From minimal piano to electronica, to Graffiti Art, mixed media such as skateboard deck design, functional furniture design, live performances, sculptors, painters, dancers and many other acts, attendees will have the chance to interact with artists on the floor throughout the course of the evening.

TEDxCapeTownWomen is taking place at Youngblood Beautiful Life Building.
TEDxCapeTownWomen is a community based in Cape Town which uses the powerful TEDx platform towards greater exposure and inclusion of women in the innovation and entrepreneurship space that is flourishing in the City. TEDxCapeTownWomen and its team is re-defining the model of citizen engagement by not only spreading good ideas, but building a platform for collaboration and community, a catalyst to inspire action. TEDxCapeTownWomen is about women, women’s issues, and women’s inherent potential, both locally and on a global scale.

BAO DOWN, a YOH! x Beijing Opera collaboration is launching at Beijing Opera.
YOH! is teaming up with Beijing Opera to create a limited edition t-shirt and bao collaboration designed by YOH! x Beijing Opera, BAO DOWN. There will two versions of the BAO DOWN t-shirt (limited to 15 of each, no more will EVER be made) as well as limited edition black and white yin-yang buns.
