Openings This Week: CT | Summertime, Precious Obsession and TED Talks x Yo Meatball

This week Summertime, a group show celebrating summer in the Mother City, is opening alongside two graduate exhibitions, a pop-up jewellery show and curated TED Talks paired with meatballs. Here are the details:


Wednesday, 19 November


The Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography annual graduate showcase is opening.

Showcasing all the BA Degree in Visual Communication and Higher Certificate in Commercial Photography talent.


41 Tegno Road, Technopark, Stellenbosch from 6:30pm.

The Absa VUKA Showcase is taking place this weekend.


The Absa VUKA Showcase


African roots meets urban fusion in a 3 day showcase of music, art and cuisine. The Absa VUKA Showcase has the simple goal of awakening optimism in the dynamic creative forces that emerge from the dark, rich soil of the African conscience. Through music, visual arts and food, we celebrate and share the passions and accomplishments of a continent bursting with colour, flair and flavour.


20 – 22 November from 11am – 6pm at Wembley Square.

An evening of curated TED Talks paired with Yo Meatball is happening at The Old Biscuit Mill.

Three curators will introduce their selected TED talks, we’ll watch, discuss, debate and then enjoy delicious food and drinks. Ticket price includes a tasty meal supplied by Yo Meatball and a drink of your choice. A cash bar will also available.

AFDA’s Annual Graduation Festival is taking place this weekend.


AFDA's Annual Graduation Festival


Showcasing the 3rd year, 4th year and master’s graduation productions, this festival is a platform to promote the young professionals whom will soon enter into the film and television industry. Students conceptualize and produce this graduation film by making use of their newly discovered artistic expression but creating a film that is commercially viable. At the festival a panel of industry professionals assess the film and opportunity is given for an audience response.


21 – 23 November at AFDA Cape Town, 18 Lower Scott Road, Observatory.

Summertime, a group exhibition celebrating summer is opening at The Cape Gallery.

This exhibition features the work of eleven local artists who draw inspiration from their surroundings. A key focus for the majority of these artists is the study of light, while others observe movement and atmosphere, using colour and expressive strokes. The collection of light, fresh work exudes the laid back feeling of what promises to be a perfect summer in Cape Town. Participating artists include: Yvonne Ankerman, Helen Blackbeard, Lesley Charnock, Jill Colley, Eric Eatwell, Lynne-Marie Eatwell, Mandy McKay, Veronica Reid, Coral Spencer, Tanya Swiegers, Helen van Stolk.
