19 Nov Make It New | A Showcase of the Cape’s Craft and Design
In celebration of local creativity, The Cape Craft and Design Institute (CCDI) and the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sports (DCAS) hosted the Make It New pop-up exhibition at the Cape Town Stadium last month. Forming part of the WDC Policy Conference and Makers + Thinkers, this 5-day affair showcased a curated selection of products, homeware and furniture by almost 200 local creatives. After deciding to extend this visual feast, Make It New found a new home and is currently on show at the recently opened Watershed at the V&A Waterfront.
Taking its name from the Modernists’ reaction to tradition, Make It New is a reflection on the past and a fascination with re-making it by blending the diverse creative approaches used specifically in the Cape. Hoping to create and discover new sources of inspiration by re-thinking the old, the product selection reflects local design thinking, innovation and problem solving and is displayed to draw attention to the significance of creative collaboration.
The exhibition is open from 10am until 7pm daily until 7 December 2014.
Entry is free.
